Billions of Chrome users are being warned after the successful attack has revealed 30 new security flaws, including seven that pose a ‘high threat’ to users.
Attackers have managed to access Chrome's unused memory. This is typically used to help the browser run smoother, however by exploiting this finding it has given hackers access to the inner workings of the application.
The tech giant plans to release an update in the next few days to fix the issue.
The statement released by the company claims that it is ‘unclear’ who has hacked the firm and whether any users' security has been put at risk.
Users are being advised to manually update their browsers from the settings feature, however Chrome will automatically update in a few days.
This comes just after Google announced that they have seen an increase in hacks to Chrome and other browsers, with several other tech companies reporting hacking vulnerabilities.
